Thank you those who turned up today to participate in the sponsored walk organised by our very own Sandra to raise much needed funds for our Society. It began from Orrell Water Park https://www.facebook.com/pages/Orrell-Water-Park/106579129408253. After a heavy rain shower at the beginning, bright sunny weather prevailed for the remainder of our lovely walk. A celebratory coffee, cake and ice cream was had by some at the end at https://www.facebook.com/pages/Madisons-Ice-Cream-Coffee-Parlour/215683035309320. Still calculating what has been raised, so watch this space!
Well, what a lovely day we had collecting @ ASDA, Wigan http://storelocator.asda.com/store/wigan-supercentre. The public were so generous in supporting our Society ..... our efforts however would not have been possible without Asda's Community Champion, Katie Martin. Thank you Katie and all those who kindly donated, your contributions in total raised a massive £182.08! This money will go towards teaching those who suffer from a hearing loss, how to lipread, making their communication skills and lives that little bit better.
We’ve said it before, Standish Lipreading Society could not function without grants and donations so when we do get a grant, we want to tell the world.
Thank you so much Forever Manchester. Your funding will help our members in so many ways.
A Trip To The Theatre
Some of our members hit The Liverpool Playhouse to enjoy the captioned performance of 'Baskerville', the Sherlock Holmes mystery play. The Playhouse has a range of devices to assist those who are hard of hearing and our group probably tried the lot! Both the play and testing of audio equipment were both a positive experience.
We’ve also attended Bolton’s Octagon Theatre for a performance of A Christmas Carol. Check out our pictures and keep checking back to see where we’ll be next.
Thank You Tesco!
Tesco are one of our biggest supporters. This picture is of Sonia Richardson (Tesco’s Community Champion) and Joyce Dalgliesh (Our Chairperson) with a fantastic donation to help us raise valuable funds.
A Trip To The Theatre - April 2018
Yet another successful trip to the theatre for our members. This time, we saw East to East at the Octogan Theatre in Bolton. Here are some of our pictures taken on the night.
23 April 2018 - Our Special Guest
Well, what can we say! Yet another very special guest attended our class today to sample one of our lipreading sessions. It was our very own Lisa Nandy, Member of Parliament for Wigan since 2010! By all accounts she had an enthralling time. Photographs show Lisa sitting amongst our members and enjoying her cuppa with our Chairperson Joyce Dalgliesh.
Thank You - BIG
We have been exceptionally fortunate in being awarded a Breathe Investment Grant https://www.facebook.com/groups/224527027955062/ to allow our Society to grow from strength to strength and therefore assist those who suffer from a hearing loss. We wish to thank not only those in the community who have supported our application but also those who have made this happen. We would particularly like to offer our praise to Samana Afzal, Enterprise & Funding Administrator, of BIG, for guiding us through this process.
20 May 2018 - ASDA Collection
Blessed to be amongst such kind people in Wigan! Yes, thank you all of you kind shoppers at ASDA (Robin Park, Superstore) who kindly donated yesterday to our Society. All proceeds will go to the continued running of our operation, which is aimed to benefit those who suffer from a hearing loss. Special thanks must also be conveyed to Katie Martin (the Asda Community Champion) and the other kind staff https://www.facebook.com/pg/asdawigan/about/?ref=page_internal without whom the event would not have been possible. Below are some of our volunteers on the day.
16 June 2018 - Tesco Collection
Thank you Tesco and especially Sonia Richardson for allowing us to fundraise at the Tesco Extra Robin Park, Wigan on 16th June. Yet again we were astounded at the generosity given by the Wigan public..... if you were one of these we are extremely grateful. Your kindness will help those with a hearing loss, to become much more confident and at ease when communicating with others.
